Contemplating Baking Christmas Yummies

A little blogging while the little guy and I enjoy ham sandwiches and Cool Ranch Doritos....
While searching for some Buche de Noel recipes, found something even better? Check out this yumminess!
I'm thinking of making it in a log shape with some crushed candy canes on top!
Or, this yummy concoction:

which is a ginger type of cheese cake.
Hmmmm, options.
Will have to go shopping.

5out of 5

Pros: functional, Sturdy, Attractive

Best Uses: Bedroom, Entryway

Describe Yourself: Bargain Hunter, Practical

This is a nice, solid piece of furniture. I marveled as I put it together at how well it was made. I love the little hidden cubby at top. A very nice entryway bench that is functional as well.

Falling

The fall is soon upon us. Such a fun season. We've already been apple picking at Indian Ladder Farms. Got some great apples and saw the animals. Got the prerequisite cider and donuts. Found some great asian dipping sauce, too.

We are going camping this weekend (as usual, Columbus weekend). They say the weather will be warm. We will go apple picking there, too. Tradition. Julia is getting a fishing pole and will go fishing for the first time (a bribe to have dry pants when she awakes).

Julia is going to pre-K. She loves it. She's a good girl at school.

We are all loving our home. Madison (the outdoor cat) has been bringing us all sorts of lovely gifts - including moles, mice, chipmonks, and a bat. So far all have been dead except one chipmonk which escaped. April has also been allowed outside, resulting in her becoming a wonderful cat.

I'm still working out what I'm doing for a Halloween costume. Julia, in her usual fashion of costumes, is doing something totally unorthodox for a little girl. Her history of costumes is quite unique: at 1 she was a rhino (0f course that was our choice, since she was too young then to choose);

at 2 she was Peter Venkman (a Ghostbuster);

at 3 she was Jack Pumpkinhead (not Skellington - but a character from Return to Oz (a little known movie from 1985 with Fairuza Balk as Dorothy).

So at 4, it shouldn't surprise that she picked something odd. She is going to be Eddie from Rocky Horror Picture Show. This choice made mostly because he plays the "saxamaphone". Hot Patootie is her favorite song right now. She knows most of the words. So, she does have a wig and helmet now... though the helmet is green. Therefore we will need to paint it silver. I'm bidding on a pleather jacket with faux leopard on the collar. Then I will have to remove the sleeves and paint BABY and add a sun to the back. She's excited for the head stitches and fake blood, as well as the tattoos.

Matt is planning on being "the dude" from The Big Lebowski. The main part of his costume would be the sweater... which runs $100 - $150 on ebay.

I'm planning on being a pirate. I, of course, want a corset... and I'm thinking a red shirt, black corset, and probably black and white knickers. I'll have to make the knickers. So, in all, not a bad halloween as far as sewing goes. (I have a sewing machine on my online christmas list.)

Personality test.

This is pretty cool. It really fit my personality. I love tests and personality profiles. This one was amazing. If you get a chance, do this.

More pictures of our new house

The inspections all went well. It has been requested that I put some interior pics up... so here are the few we have...

The top left is our bedroom, top right is the living room .
Bottom left is the computer/spare bed room, bottom right is Julia's bedroom.

We found it!

We all love it. Matt's a bit skeptical because it will be a far ride to work... but other than that, it's perfect. It is in Speigletown (a few miles north of Troy) almost to Melrose. If you know the area, it's the second right off of Rte. 40, north of Hurley's garage. They've accepted our offer and now we are awaiting paperwork. We have to get inspections done and all that. We've decided that it would have to take something extreme to pop up in the inspections for us not to get it. It needs a ton of cosmetic work (mostly paint and floors and landscaping things). It's in the Hoosic Valley school district and is only 6 minutes from my Uncle Wes's house (inground pool). It should take roughly 30 minutes for any of us to get to work. That's not ridiculous., right?
Technical stuff: Here's the story. The couple that owns it got it 45 years ago (new). It was a 3 bedroom 1 bath ranch with attached garage. They were told they couldn't have kids, so they thought it would last them. Well, they had 8 kids. So 31 years ago they put on an extension with 3 more bedrooms, 1.5 baths, and a large family room with a fire place. Downstairs from that is a large unfinished area used for a metal shop. There is also an unfinished half bath. So it is laid out kind of like a split level ranch. It isn't a 2 family, and that works out better because the layout is much nicer. We're gonna share a kitchen for now. There are 2 decks, one off the kitchen on the first floor and one off a bedroom on the second. There is a stream for the backyard property boundary... I can't wait to see that. I love that shit. There are a ton of outside entrances... which is cool out there in the country, not so sure I would like that in the middle of the city, though. Right now there's a big trampoline in the yard. Julia would love it if they left that... hehe.

New stuff

yeah, we got a 32" wide screen lcd hd tv. It's pretty cool. We got a good deal at BJs. It was sweet to watch Lost in high def.

We also got a new bed. Moved on up to a queen. It is so much higher and fluffier than our old one. We were going to save the old one for a spare bedroom bed, but the springs were totally shot, and the mattress was close.

Totally bent my engagement ring. The diamond fell out and luckily I spotted it while vacuuming... so now I need to get that fixed.

Still looking for houses. Nothing yet that has fit into our high ideals.
